S. M. Yahiya Ibrahim Facebook Poems Facebook Poem (01) On the dining table a woman is serving ‘biryani’ in my plate. Another woman is searching the body of her dead man in the Rohingya forest. My fingers are continuously slipping through the screen of my cell phone. Her ten or perhaps eleven years old son gasps for breath. An injured daughter is screaming on her shoulders. I posted a crying emoji on that Facebook video and got up from the chair. My friends must be waiting at our highway adda. Late at night when I shall come back I will…

Role of a Teacher in Life Dr. S. M. Yahiya Ibrahim (This is a talk delivered on All India Radio, Jamshedpur on the occasion of Teacher's Day 5th September 2021) Here goes a famous Japanese proverb; “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a good teacher”. Teachers, without doubt, are a major support system for our life. They can be our role models, mentors, motivators, influencers, prompters, delegators, demonstrators as well as instructors, tutors, resource managers and counselors. Of course their primary role is to deliver instructions, impart lessons and teach the curriculum inside the…

Every crisis reveals the reality. It also reveals our resourcefulness and readiness for a demanding situation. The second wave of COVID-19 has exposed glaring gaps in the country’s health infrastructure and the government’s preparedness in dealing with a crisis that came with enough warning signs. It is saddening to see how people are struggling to get the basic medical needs. Patients, relatives, and hospitals have been desperately scrambling for oxygen. Patients under home isolation are facing difficulties to get oxygen cylinders, and the price of refilling a cylinder or renting an oxygen concentrator have also been manipulated and hiked up.…

A lecture delivered online under the aegis of Karimpur Pannadevi College, Karimpur, Nadia, West Bengal on 22nd July 2020 This is a difficult time for dreamers. This is a suitable time to asses that what has happened to those dreams that were envisioned for the humanity at large. Much has been said about the American Dream. Over the years, or centuries rather, the American politicians are talking about it, the American philosophers have propounded its several theories, and the nation builders of America attempted to turn this dream into reality. The singers, from Neil Diamond to Tania Tucker celebrated it.…

My heart, is now blind,It fails to see anything kind.I'm not cowering from strife,I wish to only fast-forward life.Relentless currents have been pulling me down,Every time I've been trying not to drown. All I desire is a moment of release,Only a second and nothing more to seize. With every strife I steadily grow weary,There's nothing in sight save misery. If time is something I could forfeit,I would forfeit all in a heartbeat. My legacy is not a story,Still strangers spin it callously. No regret is worth any pain,No one lasts forever in the rain. When the dust settles in the evening,To finally be nothing is liberating.…
